Accommodating Steps in Place as Parking Enforcement Begins

To assist University of Arkansas students and employees in the transition back to campus, parking enforcement will follow a lenient plan as we begin the year.

Since March, virtually no parking citations have been issued on campus, (with the exception of flagrant violations such as blocking a loading zone, an entrance, or a fire lane, or parking in an ADA space without appropriate authorization).

Full enforcement of parking will begin on Monday, Aug. 24, but motorists should note the procedure that is in place until then.

Beginning on Friday through Sunday, Aug. 21-23, parking enforcement officers will be present in parking areas to answer questions and provide direction. As they have done throughout the summer, they will continue to enforce safety hazard violations, and will still cite vehicles in violation of ADA parking spaces and 24-hour parking spaces. Our intention will be to not issue any other citations during this time period unless necessary.

On Monday, Aug. 24, parking enforcement officers will begin issuing warning citations for those who park in unauthorized areas or for those who do not have a current parking permit. The warning citations are being issued as a way of reminding everyone that it is time to secure a parking permit, and to help newcomers on campus get acclimated to where they should be parking.

Full enforcement will begin on Aug. 31; however, parking personnel will still issue warning citations where possible (for first time offenses for not having a parking permit or for parking in an unauthorized space). This practice is to continue through Sept. 6.

Once normal enforcement resumes on Aug. 31, first-time citations for not having a permit may be waived if the individual purchases a parking permit within five business days of receiving the first-time citation.

Transit and Parking urges students and employees to take extra precaution as the semester gets underway. You may see more details at the campus parking map or by a going to the Transit and Parking website
