2020 Fall Literacy Camp Accepting Applications

The University of Arkansas College of Education and Health Professions is offering a virtual Fall Literacy Camp for students in kindergarten through sixth grades beginning Monday, Sept. 14.

Camp registration is now open.

This season's camp will be held on 11 Mondays from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

The tentative dates are:

  • Sept. 14, 21, 28
  • Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26
  • Nov. 2, 9, 16
  • Dec. 7 (Parent-Tutor Conference)

The format of this year's Fall Literacy Camp, through the U of A's Literacy Clinic will be virtual and synchronous. A recurring Zoom link will be provided prior to the first camp. Reliable Internet and a personal device for students to use are required.

Parents/guardians will accompany students for a "virtual drop-off" at the beginning of each camp hour then come back for a "virtual pickup" of students when each camp ends. Tutors will share progress reports virtually and via email for each camp session.

The cost is only $50.

The Clinic for Literacy provides students opportunities to improve reading and writing achievement. Teacher candidates serve students through analysis of literacy needs and intervention. They're able to immediately apply literacy coursework taught at the U of A while working with students.

Students will receive a boost or extra intervention if they have reading or writing deficits, said camp director Linda Eilers.

The Clinic for Literacy hosts camps in the spring and summer as well.

If you have questions, email litcamp@uark.edu or visit the literacy camp registration page.
