Safe Zone Allies Student Network

The Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education in partnership with Counseling and Psychological Services announces their newest student program.

The Safe Zone Allies Student Network welcomes students of all sexual and gender identities who are interested in and committed to addressing issues and topics of importance to the LGBTQ-plus community. Students in the network meet weekly to learn about and discuss LGBTQ-plus history, gender and sexual identities, community cultures and norms, the laws and policies that affect the LGBTQ-plus community, heteronormativity and oppression, and support resources at the university.

By participating in these sessions students gain valuable skills and knowledge that will help them in developing their LGBTQ-plus advocacy and allyship. After attending four sessions, students receive their Safe Zone Allies sticker and backpack pin, and after eight sessions they can obtain a Safe Zone Allies certificate, which signifies their devotion to their role as an LGBTQ-plus ally. 

Students interested in this student learning network should register on Hogsync. Once registered you will be added to our Safe Zone Student Network in Microsoft Teams where you can join or weekliy session, recieve additional resources, share and engage with others dedicating to being an ally. 

Meeting sessions will be held virtually on Microsoft Teams every Monday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. starting Sept. 21.
