Teaching and Faculty Support Center Announces October Virtual Presentations for Faculty

The Teaching and Faculty Support Center will host seven virtual presentations for faculty during the month of October:

Wednesday, Oct. 7 (noon-1 p.m.) and Thursday, Oct. 8 (12:30-1:30 p.m.), New Faculty Presentation
Presentation Title: "Learning About Digital Measures"
Presenter:  Kathryn Zawisza, Director of Academic Technology and Innovation, IT Services
In this presentation, Kathryn Zawisza, the interim Digital Measures administrator, will give an overview of Digital Measures and a refresher on entering your data. A demonstration of some of the ways you can create and customize a CV and run specific reports that you can save and share will also be highlighted.

Tuesday, Oct. 13 (12:30-1:30 p.m.) and Wednesday, Oct. 14 (noon-1 p.m.), All Faculty Presentation
Presentation Title: "5 Things You Didn't Know Our Teaching Tools Could Do"
Presenters:  Shelly Walters, associate director for Instructional Design and Support Services, Global Campus, and Kathryn Zawisza, director of Academic Technology and Innovation, IT Services
This presentation will focus on some little known or explored features of the academic technologies on campus. They will share some of the innovative ways faculty have used Blackboard and Web Conferencing to deliver content and assess student learning. They will also discuss several TIPS for using collaborative tools such as the suite of Microsoft Products. They will look at:

  1. Blackboard TIPS
  2. Web Conferencing TIPS
  3. Collaboration TIPS (using Microsoft)
  4. Time Saving TIPS
  5. TIPS on using Analytics.

Tuesday, Oct. 20 (12:30-1:30 p.m.) and Wednesday, Oct. 21 (noon-1 p.m.),  Non-Tenure Track Faculty Presentation
Presentation Title: "Documenting Teaching Effectiveness"
Presenters: Rebecca Miles, Department of Marketing; Paul Calleja, Health, Human Performance and Recreation; and Nathan Kemper, Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness
Rebecca Miles, Paul Calleja, and Nathan Kemper discuss ways to document and highlight innovative and effective teaching for annual evaluations, promotions, award applications, and other purposes.

Wednesday, Oct. 28 (time to be determined), October Cordes Chair Event
Presentation Title: “Teaching and the Art of Thievery”
Cordes Chair:  Tom Jensen, Department of Marketing
Join the Wally Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center for an informal conversation about teaching with the October Cordes Chairperson, Tom Jensen, professor, Department of Marketing.

An email announcement for each event will be sent to the TFSC Faculty listserv. Faculty can participate in these sessions by logging on to Blackboard (learn.uark.edu). If you have signed up to be a member of the Wally Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center online community, this link will appear under "Non-Credit Courses." Open the link, click on the "Virtual Meeting" link, and then click on the specific Zoom meeting you wish to join. Each meeting will open to participants 15 minutes before the official start time, so join early for informal conversation with your faculty colleagues prior to the program.
