DIY Recording Workshop Offered by Department of Music

The Department of Music offers a "DIY Recording Workshop" for students and faculty needing to learn about home studio audio techniques. In an effort to support student success during remote learning, the workshop aims to teach the basics of DIY recording for classroom assignments, personal projects, and for students giving remote recitals and preparing audition materials.

The workshop is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27.

The workshop is taught by professor Nikola Radan of the Department of Music. Graduate students Gustavo Samudio and James Joseph will assist.

This workshop is designed to offer students and faculty an introduction to the affordable equipment used in a home recording studio. The goal is to provide basic tips on how to set up the equipment and the digital audio workstation for the recording session in order to achieve the best results.

The workshop will also cover the following: How to mix the final recording file, that is, how to apply basic editing, and how to use basic equalization, compression, and reverberation to create a final audio file of the highest possible quality (considering the conditions in which we are now recording and the equipment available to us at home).

The workshop will conclude with step-by-step demonstrations and a Q&A session for participants. All are welcome to attend.

Registration is required
