Greene to Present Lecture on Fellini's Use of EUR in His First Color Film
Shelleen Greene, associate professor in the UCLA School of Theatre, Film and Television, will give a presentation on "The Temptations of Doctor Antonio: Whiteness and Fellini's Cinematic Imaginary" at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, via Zoom.
The event is free but registration is required.
The program will examine the trope of whiteness within Federico Fellini's first color film, The Temptations of Doctor Antonio (1962), arguing that the film's setting within Italy's EUR, originally the Esposizione Universale Roma, a business district within Rome initiated as World War II began, allows for a meditation on Italy's colonial legacies.
Greene's research interests include Italian cinema, Black European studies and digital feminist studies. Her book, Equivocal Subjects: Constructions of Racial and National Identity in the Italian Cinema, examines the representations of mixed-race subjects of Italian and African descent in Italian cinema.
The program is co-sponsored by the U of A's Italian Program, the Gender Studies Program and the Consulate of Italy at Houston.
