Sandra Hancock, fiscal support supervisor in the Department of Civil Engineering, has been named the College of Engineering's Staff Member of the Year for fiscal year 2020.

The Staff Member of the Year is chosen from among quarterly winners in the College of Engineering.

In her nomination, Hancock was praised for her service mentality, deep knowledge of financial processes and her overall effectiveness.

Kim Needy, dean of the College of Engineering, said Hancock's work sets a high standard within the College.

"Our fiscal support supervisors play a critical role in managing the finances of our areas," she said. "It is imperative that they be knowledgeable, effective and forward-thinking, and Sandra has all those qualities and more. Her colleagues, including me, are fortunate to have her on the team."

The Employee of the Year program is administered by the College of Engineering Staff Council.

Ashley Reeves, president of the College of Engineering staff council, said Hancock's recognition is well-deserved.

"The council is focused on highlighting the outstanding work of College of Engineering Staff Members, and Sandra is an example for us all," Reeves said. "We're pleased to honor her and to thank her for all she does to make the College successful."

Hancock, who has worked in the Department of Civil Engineering for 34 years, praised her colleagues and said the award was humbling.

"It is a deep honor and humbling to be chosen for this award," she said. "I definitely work in the best department and college on campus. The people I work with are amazing and I can't see myself working anywhere else."
