Yolanda Fintschenko, co-founder of the digital marketing and design agency FounderTraction, will give a virtual seminar titled "What every scientist should know about sales and marketing" on Zoom from 4-5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20. The talk is free and open to the public.

Fintschenko is a scientist, writer, marketer and avid runner who lives and works in Livermore, California. She holds a B.S. in chemistry from Trinity University (1992) in San Antonio, Texas, and a Ph.D. in bioanalytical chemistry from the University of Kansas (1997). After a brief post-doc at the University of Twente in the Netherlands, she began her scientific career in the field of lab-on-a-chip at Sandia National Labs working on devices for biodetection for biodefense.

As the manager of the microfluidics department at Sandia, she was responsible for transferring technology to industry. This began a real love affair of helping products find markets. After nine years at Sandia, she then moved to industry to build an international marketing team of scientists to exert technical influence in the field of food safety for Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Two years later, she took that expertise to LabSmith to run marketing and sales. While at LabSmith, she discovered the significance of digital tools to amplify word-of-mouth and began a passionate advocacy of a holistic digital marketing approach tailored to technical products and markets by starting her first company, Common SciSense in 2015. In 2017, she co-founded two digital marketing agencies that focus on business-to-business digital marketing for technical or scientific products — FounderTraction and Fixate IO and remains co-founder and principal at FounderTraction.
