Macey Graham: Student Leader of the Month

Senior Macey Graham has been selected as the Student Leader of the Month for November 2020. Originally from Lee's Summit, Missouri, Macey came to the University of Arkansas to study apparel merchandising and product development. She is currently in her fourth year of working as the Student Activities marketing specialist. She is also involved in the Kappa Delta Sorority as well as the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society.

Macey said she got involved in these organizations because she wanted to be part of something on campus.

"I didn't want to just go to college, I wanted to be involved and leave a mark on this campus," she said. "I also wanted to make connections and make new friends."

Macey believes responsibility, the ability to remain strong when things get tough, kindness, accountability, confidence, passion, honesty, and the ability to empower others are the most important qualities and characteristics of a leader. Her advice for other students is that "it's okay to take a break and focus on yourself and your mental health when things get hard. You are human."

Macey's favorite leadership quote is from Kathleen Schafer: "Leadership is not about men in suits. It is a way of life for those who know who they are and are willing to be their best to create the life they want to live."

Macey would like to thank her mentors, especially Rosa Edwards for always being by her side when she needed her and for lighting up any room she is in.

The Student Leader of the Month award, sponsored by the New Student & Family Programs office, recognizes University of Arkansas undergraduate students for their excellence in leadership through campus involvement, leadership activities, or through volunteer and community service.
