Stay Connected with OLLI's Socials and Special Interest Groups

Keep informed, entertained, and connected to OLLI through fun social and cultural experiences. Join the social activities and special interest groups to connect outside the classroom, continue learning from peers, and grow lifelong friendships! Social events are open to anyone who would like to attend; however, special interest groups are often exclusively for OLLI members. Most, if not all, of these events, can meet virtually via Zoom. 

Earlier this fall, one of our most popular classes created a Special Interest Group, "Staying Current on China," which met every first Wednesday of the month to discuss current events relating to China with a special focus on their impact in the United States. This particular group became extremely close-knit and even communicated during the weeks between meetings. These SIGs can serve as great meetings to keep involved with current events and build relationships. This particular SIG featured multiple guest speakers and documentaries so students could stay connected in the time between meetings. Monthly Social Events

There is much fun to be had in the classroom, but it's important to have fun and connect with one another beyond the classroom. Our social committee hosts several events throughout the year that build camaraderie and community among our members. Social events are open to anyone who would like to attend. Due to Covid-19, in-person social events are temporarily suspended and being held on Zoom. Event dates, times, and Zoom links are available on the website and posted in weekly e-newsletters.

OLLI for Coffee

Join in on these weekly virtual programs on Zoom where we will make. Each week there will be announcements of upcoming events, interviews, and the opportunity for participants to socialize. Stay informed on OLLI news, events, and community during this weekly program held Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. Each program features upcoming events, interviews, and opportunities to connect with others in the OLLI community. 

Lunch with Authors and Others

Each month an author or other interesting speaker will give a short program followed by a conversation at enriching, informative and convivial luncheons. This Dutch-treat lunch is open to OLLI members and anyone else who is interested. An RSVP is requested at least three days in advance.

Happy Hour

Connect with new and old friends at our fun-filled happy hour gatherings! Grab your beverage of choice and a favorite snack and join in on the laughter, games, and more. 

Special Interest Groups

Interested in getting involved in OLLI beyond the classes? Consider joining (or starting) a SIG! Special Interest Groups are a chance for members to focus on one particular area of interest beyond what is offered in classes. They are completely member-driven and some meet virtually while others meet in person. For more information, or to join or start a SIG, contact the OLLI office. 

Current Events Discussion Group

What's the news of today? This SIG meets to discuss interesting, controversial, newsworthy, and fun topics that are streaming the headlines. Group members, on a volunteer basis, choose, present, and facilitate discussion on topics of local, state, national, and foreign interest.

Nonfiction Book Club

If you enjoy reading good books and discussing them among like-minded readers then this is the group for you! Group members select books that relate directly to topics of general interest such as political history, economic policy, environmental issues, or controversial public figures. OLLI members who may be interested in such topics are invited to take part in the monthly discussion sessions.

Staying Current on China

This SIG meets monthly, for one hour sessions, to review and discuss current events relating to China — with a special focus on their impact in the United States. The group's objective is to gain a greater understanding of the Chinese culture and the objectives of the Chinese government. No prior knowledge or experience with the subject is required.    

OLLI at the Movies

If you enjoy the big screen then don't miss out on these free movie showings twice each month. Movies range from mad-cap comedies to more recent feature films. The movies and popcorn are provided, just bring a drink, sit back, and enjoy the show! In-person movie showings are temporarily suspended.
