University Recreation to Offer a Wide Variety of Programming This Spring

University Recreation is excited to continue offering access to its recreational facilities, programs and services this semester to help keep members of the university community active, safe and well.  

UREC Outdoors (HPER 102) is hosting a variety of field-based programs this semester including local day hikes, paddling sessions, mountain biking and more. The trip calendar can be found on the outdoors webpage. These trips accommodate those of all skill levels. Register for trips and clinics in-person at UREC Outdoors in HPER 102 or online through the UREC Member Portal.  

UREC's climbing facilities are open and reservations are strongly encouraged. Additionally, UREC Outdoors has an extensive inventory of camping, cycling, climbing, and paddling equipment available to rent. To view a comprehensive list of available equipment and rental rates, visit the camping, climbing, cycling, and paddling equipment rental pages. 

Fitness/Wellness will continue offering both in-person and online group fitness classes this semester. All in-person classes will be held at the HPER Building, and online classes will be held via Zoom. Class offerings include Body Sculpt, Cardio & Core, Cycle, HIIT Cycle, Kickboxing, Triple Fit, HIIT Fit, ZUMBA, Cardio Dance, R.I.P.P.E.D., P90X, Yoga, Sunrise Yoga, Pilates Fusion, and UREC Barre. Reservations are highly encouraged for the in-person classes and can be done through the UREC Member Portal. Reservations are required to access the online classes. To view the class schedule, please visit the group fitness webpage.

Small group training will run two different sessions this semester. The first session runs from Jan. 25 to March 9, and the second session runs from March 15 to April 29. The cost to register for a session is $43 for students and $57 for UREC members, classes meet twice a week for 6 weeks. Participants may register now for Session 1 by searching 'RazorFitness' under the Fitness/Wellness Category in the member portal.  

Personal Training is available both in-person and an online environment. For more information, please visit the personal training webpage.  

Intramural Sports is offering in-person and virtual events this semester. A few of the offerings include basketball shooting competitions, 4v4 indoor volleyball, badminton, and pickleball.  Registration for Intramural Sports Block 1 is open and can be done through the UREC Member portal. To view the spring sports calendar, visit the intramural sports website.  

Club Sports currently hosts 28 student-led clubs which range from competitive to recreational. Visit the club sports website for more information, individual club contacts, and practice information. 

The UREC Sports Injury Clinic is offering both in-person and virtual appointments during the spring semester. The clinic is located in the HPER Building (room 320) and offers free injury evaluations, as well as opportunities for injury prevention, emergency care, and rehabilitation. The clinic is staffed by a licensed athletic trainer and is offered at no cost to all UARK students and UREC members. Visit the clinic webpage for additional information, hours and appointment scheduling. 

UREC is offering community CPR classes, lifeguard certification classes, private and semi-private swim lessons, as well as group lessons for adults and independent swimmers. For more information, please visit the aquatics webpage.  

In addition to expanding programming options this semester, UREC has recently extended its equipment options in the Donna Axum Fitness Center and Gym 1 (both located in the HPER Bldg., floor 2) as well as Gym 4 (HPER Bldg., floor 3). These additions include bench presses, a utility chair, additional cardio space and equipment including several more ellipticals and bikes. Reservations are strongly encouraged in the Donna Axum Fitness Center and Gym 1, as well as the UREC Fitness Center, located on the second floor of the AR Union.  

Drop-in recreation opportunities have also been expanded and are available on a first come, first served basis whenever the facility is open. 3v3 max half-court basketball, 4v4 max volleyball, 1v1 max racquetball, and 2v2 max badminton are now available for multi-person play in the HPER Building, and do not require reservations. Face coverings are required while participating in these activities.

All donated bikes will be given to Pedal It Forward, a local nonprofit that will refurbish your bike and return it to the U of A campus to be gifted to a student in need. Hundreds of students have already benefited.
