Italian Honor Society Gamma Kappa Alpha Inducts 17 U of A Students

On Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, the Italian Program hosted a virtual induction of 17 students to the Italian National Honors Society, Gamma Kappa Alpha, the largest induction of U of A students to date.

The Gamma Kappa Alpha National Italian Honor Society is a society formed to acknowledge superior scholastic performance in the field of Italian Studies: language, literature, cinema, and culture. It is open to membership at institutions of higher learning in both the United States and Canada. The organization's slogan is "Knowledge and Virtue."

The society encourages college students to acquire a greater interest in, and develop a deeper understanding of, Italian culture, art, and history. The organization recognizes outstanding undergraduate scholarship in the field of Italian by awarding annually the Gamma Kappa Alpha Award for Scholarship.

In order to be inducted into Gamma Kappa Alpha, students must have taken at least five courses in Italian having attained at least a "B" average in each course and be in the upper 35% of his/her/their class.
