The Arkansas Global Changemakers Initiative and the University of Arkansas Graduate Net Impact Chapter will host the first Global Changemakers Book Club meeting on Feb. 18 in the format of a conversation with Riane Eisler, the author of The Real Wealth of Nations: Creating a Caring Economics.

The event is scheduled for 5:30-6:30 p.m. (CT) Thursday, Feb. 18, via Zoom. Participants can RSVP for the event online, and submit questions for Eisler here.

In the book, Eisler shows that the great problems of our time — such as poverty, inequality, war, terrorism, and environmental degradation — are due largely to flawed economic systems that set the wrong priorities and misallocate resources.

Eisler is president of the Center for Partnership Systems and editor-in-chief of the Interdisciplinary Journal of Partnership Studies at the University of Minnesota. She pioneered the expansion of human rights theory and action to include women and children, and her research, writing, and speaking transformed the lives of people worldwide. She keynotes conferences internationally and consults for governments on partnerism and the partnership model. She is also the author of numerous books, including Nurturing Our Humanity: How Domination and Partnership Shape Our Brains, Lives and Future (Oxford University Press, 2019), and The Chalice and The Blade: Our History, Our Future (now in its 56th U.S. printing, and in 26 foreign language editions).

The Global Changemakers initiative is the collaboration between the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and the Sam M. Walton College of Business that brings together programs and resources from across the University of Arkansas to support a mission aimed at enhancing academic and community engagement with a wide range of global social challenges. The Global Changemakers Book Club is an open platform to discuss the work of influential authors, theories and topics around social innovation, social entrepreneurship, international collaboration, intercultural competency, multi-sector collaboration, impact investment, impact assessment mechanisms, and related topics.
