Pest Management Expert Burrack Featured in Entomology and Plant Pathology Virtual Seminar

Hannah Burrack leads the Specialty Crop Integrated Pest Management Laboratory at North Carolina State University.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences is hosting professor and extension specialist Hannah Burrack in a virtual seminar on Tuesday.

Burrack is with the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at North Carolina State University. She leads the Specialty Crop Integrated Pest Management Laboratory, which develops biology based pest and pollinator management strategies in berries, tobacco and industrial hemp.

Burrack also recently accepted an appointment as the director of education and outreach for the N.C. State University Plant Sciences Initiative.

Burrack completed her doctoral research at the University of California at Davis in 2007 where she focused on the biology and management of the olive fruit fly (Bactrocera oleae), which at the time had recently invaded California. She carried this interest in invasive species management to N.C. State and has been a national and international leader in the response to Drosophila suzukii, the spotted-wing drososphila.

At N.C. State, Burrack has trained 17 graduate students, contributed to 67 peer reviewed publications or book chapters, and generated over $11 million in program funding. In addition, she has engaged with grower stakeholders through contributions to 25 production guides, over 420 meetings to more than 27,000 attendees and media reports.
