FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences is hosting grapevine and Mediterranean crop researcher Pasquale Saldarelli in a virtual seminar on Tuesday.

Saldarelli is a senior researcher at the Institute of Sustainable Plant Protection of the National Research Council in Italy. He has described several new viruses and associated diseases using NGS technologies, and developed biotechnological methods and tools for virus detection.

The seminar takes place from 3:30-5:20 p.m. via Zoom link:

He has focuses efforts on the study of the Xylella fastidiosa outbreak in Apulia, contributing to the genome studies of Italian and Spanish isolates, to the analysis of response to the infection, to the description of the microbiome infected by Xylella and to the study of Xylella resistance, all in olive.

Saldarelli served on the Scientific Committee of the Italian Society of Plant Pathology and is a member of the International Council of Virus and Virus-like Diseases of the grapevine. He has participated in several EU projects.
