U of A Plans Events for Women's History Month
The University of Arkansas is honoring the many contributions of women with a slate of events during Women's History Month in March.
The schedule of events features a movie series, health and wellness activities, a virtual celebration of International Women's Day and a lunch and learn with Danyelle Musselman, in addition to professional development activities. The Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion also released a video in celebration of the month.
"Women deserve our respect and recognition every day of the year. Women's History Month invites us to reflect on the progress that has been made and harness that power to build a more equitable future," said Yvette Murphy-Erby, vice chancellor for diversity, equity and inclusion.
Women's History Month began in 1982 as Women's History Week, which eventually became a monthlong celebration of the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in American history.
Sponsors for the events include the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Division of Student Affairs; Center for Multicultural & Diversity Education; and New Student and Family Programs. Additionally, the university's Portraits of Progress site recognizes many of the female pioneers throughout the institution's history.
