FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Chancellor Joe Steinmetz held a virtual town hall with students on Thursday, March 4, discussing a number of topics including how the University of Arkansas plans to conduct the upcoming semesters amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
The discussion was co-hosted by Associated Student Government President Julia Nall and Graduate Professional Student Congress president, J.D. DiLoreto-Hill.

Chancellor Steinmetz began the virtual talk with brief remarks, updating everyone on the COVID-19 pandemic and the university’s intention to stay the present course following Spring Break (rather than pivot to more face-to-face classes). He also talked about the vaccine plan for students as it currently stands, and an overview of spring commencement.
Steinmetz also indicated a hope that the university could hold more outdoor events this summer, and plans to have a face-to-face fall semester.
Students were able to ask questions when they registered for the town hall. Topics covered a range of issues including: how to build an antiracist campus, tuition and fees, parking and transit and what to do if students don’t feel they are being heard by administration or by staff and faculty.
While the chancellor meets regularly with student leaders and hosts small group meetings throughout the year, the event was part of an annual effort to reach as many students as possible.
