Kyra Brockhausen

Kyra Brockhausen, a freshman from Billings, Montana, who is double-majoring in music education and trumpet performance, was named the winner of the Ryan Anthony ITG Scholarship Award. The scholarship money will go to pay for her attendance at the International Trumpet Guild Conference, which will be held virtually this year due to COVID-19. During the five days of the conference, she will be able to join daily warmups, yoga and health sessions, masterclasses, recitals, roundtable discussions, virtual networking, virtual meetings with exhibitors, competitions, Q&A sessions with favorite artists and much more.

Richard Rulli, associate professor of trumpet and Brockhausen's teacher, believes she has the talent to take her far as a musician.

"I met Kyra several years ago as a member of the faculty of the Red Lodge Music Festival in Montana. Immediately I could tell that she had talent as a trumpet player. But more than that, she possesses a positive attitude and work ethic that will help her reach her goals as a professional musician. Kyra works very hard, and I am proud. This is only the beginning for her," Rulli said.

After graduating from the U of A, Brockhausen hopes to pursue her master's and doctoral degrees in trumpet performance to enter a performance career full-time.
