Marine Biology Researcher Receives Simon Foundation Fellowship

Eveline Pinseel, a post-doctoral researcher in marine biology, has received a three-year fellowship from the Simons Foundation.
The Simons Foundation works to advance basic research on fundamental questions in biology, focusing on origins of life, microbial oceanography, microbial ecology and evolution, and support of early career scientists. Pinseel's study is titled "Linking Micro- and Macroevolution to Understand Freshwater Adaptation by Ancestrally Marine Diatoms."
"This award comes at a crucial moment in my career, as it will allow me to further develop an international and independent research program aimed at understanding the ecology, evolution and diversification of microalgae," said Pinseel, who works in the laboratory of Andrew Alverson, associate professor of biology.
The Simons Foundation awarded 11 fellowships nationally in 2020. The awards include an annual stipend of $65,000 and up to $25,000 in toward research support.
