Bumpers College Names Gamma Sigma Delta Student Contest and Outstanding Faculty Winners

Master's degree and doctoral student winners from the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Science's annual Gamma Sigma Delta Poster and Oral Competition have been announced.

Gamma Sigma Delta is the Honor Society of Agriculture. The competition took place March 19. Students in crop, soil and environmental sciences claimed eight spots, food science, four, and animal science and horticulture, one each.

Master's Poster Division:

• 1st - Tristen Avent, crop science
• 2nd - Jacob Fleming, crop science
• 3rd - Mary Jane Lytle, crop science, and Ian Kennedy, animal science

Master's Oral Presentation Division:

• 1st - Bodie Cotter, crop science
• 2nd - Maria Roberta De Oliveira, crop science, and Thomas Walton, horticulture

Ph.D. Poster Division:

• 1st - Inah Gu, food science
• 2nd - Maria Leticia Moraes Zaccaro, crop science
• 3rd - Mason Castner, crop science

Ph.D. Oral Presentation Division:

• 1st - Sara Jarma Arroyo, food science
• 2nd - Francia Ravelombola, crop science
• 3rd - Rebecca Bruce, food science, and Michelle Oppong Siaw, food science

Students earned certificates and prizes of $150 for first place, $100 for second and $70 for third.

In addition, Eunjoo Cho and Jason Kelley have been named winners of Gamma Sigma Delta's faculty awards.

Cho, associate professor and graduate coordinator in apparel merchandising and product development in the School of Human Environmental Sciences, is winner of the Outstanding Teaching Award.

Kelley, an agronomist with the Cooperative Extension Service and the U of A System Division of Agriculture, is a wheat and feed grains expert in Little Rock. A member of the faculty in the Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences, he is winner of the Outstanding Research Award.

GSD aims to advance agriculture in all phases, maintain and improve relations of agriculture to other industries and recognize the responsibility of its members to others. It seeks to encourage high standards of scholarship, worthy attainment and a high degree of excellence in the practice of agricultural pursuits.
