The U of A committee that was formed to explore the connections of J. William Fulbright and Charles Brough to the university has concluded its work and released three recommendations.

The committee of students and staff made three recommendations: remove J. William Fulbright’s name from the College of Arts and Sciences, remove his statue from its location behind Old Main and remove Charles Brough’s name from Brough Commons.

More on the committee’s recommendations and next steps can be found here.

Chancellor Joe Steinmetz will review and continue the process of listening to a wide array of stakeholders and seek feedback regarding the committee’s recommendations. This part of the process will conclude in late May.

The basis and implication for taking action on any of the recommendations will be carefully evaluated, as well as any process steps that would be necessary should action be taken. For example, any name changes would require approval by U of A Board of Trustees.
