BASIS Mainframe Decommissioning Kicks Off

With the implementation of Workday complete for finance and human resources, efforts have begun to migrate historical data to the data warehouse and decommission the BASIS mainframe.

With only two years of finance and HR data in Workday, many still rely on BASIS data to complete critical work activities. IT Services recognizes this need and will ensure all historical data not available in Workday is successfully migrated and accessible before the mainframe is retired. Staff with a business need to access historic BASIS data will have preconfigured reports similar to reports found in BASIS today.

This decommissioning effort will save the university approximately $1 million per year in service and licensing fees and help ensure the integrity and proper use of institutional data.

The project team, in partnership with subject matter experts from both finance and HR, are currently migrating and validating BASIS data. They are also in the process of identifying and surveying faculty and staff on their ongoing reporting needs.

A survey has been emailed to everyone who has logged into BASIS or webBASIS since July 2020.

If you feel your position requires continued access to historical BASIS data but you did not receive the email, please complete the survey by June 18. This information will help the team better understand your information needs and avoid access interruption.

There is no specific date for the mainframe decommission at this time. A target date will be communicated after migrated BASIS data has been validated and users have been identified.
