Child Caregivers Needed for a Short Survey on Library Use

The U of A Libraries invite the campus community to take a brief survey regarding childcare and library use. The survey will remain open until Sept. 10.

The libraries are committed to providing high-quality spaces and services to all students, faculty and staff on campus. Nationally, more than one in five college students is a parent, and many faculty also care for young children.

Mullins Library is home to the Children's Literature Collection, and it is not unusual to see young children browsing the books in that corner of the libraries. Researchers at the University Libraries are interested in investigating how child caregivers use the campus libraries and what services or spaces they may need beyond the existing collection of juvenile literature. You are invited to take an online survey to participate in the study.

"It's not uncommon to see students or campus employees in the library with their young children," said Laura Cameron, education librarian. "Unfortunately, many people who come in with children often seem worried about whether kids are welcome in the library. I want to make the library more welcoming for this group of library users and ensure that all our students, faculty and staff are able to fully take advantage of the spaces and resources the libraries have to offer."
