Global Series Kicks Off Wednesday With Philippines Program
Holcombe is excited to bring back the Global Series in person this year.
The Global Series is a program that offers international students and domestic students with a study abroad experience an opportunity to share their culture, beliefs and traditions with the campus community.
The program features and celebrates distinct cultures represented on campus. Learn about the different homes of our international students and the experiences of our domestic students in new countries. Join us as we learn and celebrate the diversity in our students.
The first Global Series will be about the Philippines. The presentation begins at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Holcombe Hall living room.
With over 7,000 islands, the Philippines is known as a vacation hot spot because it is full of beautiful beaches and exotic fruits like coconut, papayas and mangosteens.
"The culture has changed over time through immigration, imperialism, colonization and traditions that withstand outsider input. The Philippines is more than a travel destination," said the presenter and student Fern Milmon.
One of her favorite things about growing up in the Philippines is the food and the celebrations. She wants the campus community to learn about the Philippines "because like any other culture, it's diverse, involves millions of people around the world and is deserving of the respect and effort it takes to learn about."
This event is open to all students, staff and faculty as well as the Fayetteville community. We encourage attendees to invite their families and friends.
