Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival on Friday with VSA, CLCC, JSA and FSO

The Vietnamese Student Association, Chinese Language and Culture Club, Japanese Student Association and Filipino Student Organization would love to invite students to attend the Mid-Autumn Festival at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 8, in the Multicultural Center on the fourth floor of the Arkansas Union.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, is a traditional celebration practiced by many East and Southeast Asian communities. Dating back 3,000 years, emperors in China worshiped the moon goddess, and their influence became an custom accepted by the masses. Now celebrated by other countries like Vietnam, Japan and many others, the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival lands on the day when the moon is believed to be at its fullest and brightest, symbolizing family reunion and post-autumn harvest celebration. Cherished by children and full of traditional foods and paper lantern making, the special and unique event is commemorated over a span of three to even seven days long. VSA, CLCC, JSA and FSO intend to bring this customary festival over to Western culture, increasing its awareness for those at the university and beyond.

This event is supported by the Student Activities Fee as a funded event by the Associated Student Government and is free to all currently enrolled U of A students who pay the student activities fee.
