Upcoming Network Redesign
The new design will allow for greater security and faster transfer rates of research data.
IT Services will implement a network redesign from midnight to 10 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 17. This critical work will establish multiple network "Science DMZ" segments supporting the National Science Foundation-funded DART project. No network outages are expected during this maintenance, but brief outages may occur during this time.
The Science DMZ redesign will separate network traffic to optimize network performance and increase security for research activities. The outcome of the new science DMZ is an environment that will work much better for researchers at the U of A as well as for external collaborators who are using U of A resources from their own institutions.
This effort is the result of 18 months of design discussions between the High Performance Computing Center team, professor Jackson Cothren and University Information Technology Services' network architect, Michael Davis.
