U of A Celebrates National Transfer Student Week

Each October, National Transfer Student Week celebrates the academic accomplishments of transfer students at colleges and universities across the country. The week also honors the work of professional staff who support transfer students as they strive to reach their academic and career goals.

National Transfer Student Week runs from Oct. 18-22, and Transfer Central, part of the Office of Admissions at the U of A, will mark the occasion with a series of events aimed at celebrating transfer students on campus and informing prospective transfer students about the opportunities available at the U of A.

This year's national theme is "These Transfer Shoes," and transfer Razorbacks on campus are encouraged to participate in a variety of events throughout the week. The main event, co-hosted by the Association of Student Government, will take place Monday, Oct. 18, at the Union Mall. Transfer students can pick up transfer student buttons, share their transfer stories over a cup of hot cocoa and learn about transfer specific resources and registered student organizations on campus. A full list of events for transfer students can be found on the campus calendar or the Transfer Central website.

Additionally, Arkansas transfer students applying for undergraduate admission at the U of A for the first time can do so for free from Oct. 14-16 as part of the Free Application Days event.

"Transfer students are an important part of our campus culture. They bring experience, new ideas and energy to the campus, and we are pleased to support them in any way we can," said Suzanne McCray, vice provost for enrollment and dean of admissions. "Transfer Central does a terrific job of helping incoming transfer students make all the right connections."

Nationally, nearly four in 10 students are likely to transfer colleges. The U of A supports these students with innovative scholarship opportunities like the Arkansas Transfer Achievement Scholarship, as well as resources like the course equivalency guides and the Transfer Planning Guide offered by the Office of the Registrar.

Transfer Central provides resources and support to all students who are interested in transferring to the U of A. The office regularly hosts webinars focused on key aspects of the transfer process, and staff are available to meet with students one-on-one to answer questions and help create the best transfer plan for each student.

"In the Transfer Central Office, everything we do is geared to supporting a successful transition for students to the University of Arkansas," said Chad Cox, associate director for admissions and Transfer Central. "These students are prepared to do well, and this week highlights their many accomplishments."
