UAPD to Host Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events Class
The U of A Police Department will host a Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) class from 8 a.m. to noon today, Tuesday, Oct. 26, in Maple Hill South Room 145. Everyone within our campus community is eligible to sign up, and there is no cost.
The course is designed and built on the "Avoid, Deny, Defend" strategy developed by Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) and provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. The CRASE course is available to all campus departments. If you cannot attend the class this month, your department could host a class at a later date.
Between the years 2000 and 2019, the FBI has identified 347 active attacks — most attacks are with a primary weapon of a firearm. Less than 10 percent include a primary weapon of a blade or vehicle. During the CRASE course, participants will explore why these attacks occur and how they can maximize their safety during an active shooter event.
