Join the National First-Generation Student Celebration

New Student & Family Programs in the Division of Student Affairs will host a National First-Generation Student Day Celebration from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, in the Arkansas Union Connections Lounge. The event takes place in accordance with the National First-Generation College Celebration first launched by the Council for Opportunity in Education in 2017.

The celebration aims to recognize and celebrate the students, faculty, and staff members who identify as first-generation at the University of Arkansas as well as to highlight resources on campus that work to support first-generation college students.

T-shirts and stickers for first-generation students, first-generation Graduates, and others who support the first-generation population will be available. With these stickers, NSFP seeks to highlight the large population of first-generation students, graduates, and supporters at the U of A and to show all first-generation students that they are welcomed in our community.

The event will also include light refreshments, a photobooth, and an interactive story wall where our first-generation population can share why being a first-generation student is important to them. You can submit your story ahead of time.

For more information about the event contact Emily Cook, assistant director of New Student & Family Programs (ebcook@uark.edu). Add this event to your calendar to join us to celebrate the accomplishments of first-generation college students!
