Leitner to Lecture on 'Secret of Coffee Aroma'

Erich Leitner, Ph.D.

The Department of Food Science and the Center for Human Nutrition invite you to attend a seminar at 3:05 p.m. featuring Erich Leitner, professor and head of the Institute of Analytical Chemistry and Food Chemistry at the Graz University of Technology in Austria. Leitner will present his research on coffee aroma. The seminar can be attended in person in FDSC D1/D2 or virtually using the Zoom link below.

Leitner studied technical chemistry at the Graz University of Technology, Austria, where he obtained a Ph.D. in organic trace analysis and habilitation in food chemistry. Currently he holds a professorship for "analytics of food and food contact material."

Leitner's research activities are focused on the identification of volatile and odor active substances in food and food contact materials. He has more than 30 years of experience in organic trace and ultra-trace analysis mainly based on gas chromatographic methods. He also is a trained sensory expert and member of the expert panel of the TU Graz sensory lab.

In his research, Leitner combines the use of a trained expert panel and highly specific equipment based on gas chromatographic techniques for the identification and quantification of smelly molecules.
