Stephenson, Rojas Co-Edit New Book on Myxomycetes

Steve Stephenson, a research professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, is the co-editor of a new book. Entitled Myxomycetes: Biology, Systematics, Biogeography, and Ecology, the book is considered to be the most complete collection of general and technical information available for any group of microorganisms.

The broad scope of the book takes an integrated approach to the knowledge of this group of microorganisms, considering a number of important aspects of their genetics and molecular phylogeny in addition to presenting an overview of what is currently known about such subjects as their morphology, ecology and biogeography. The 580-page book, published by Academic Press, represents the collective effort of international team consisting of many of the world's leading experts on the myxomycetes.

Stephenson co-edited the book with Carlos Rojas, a professor in the Department of Biosystems Engineering at the University of Costa Rica. Rojas received his Ph.D. from the U of A in 2010, where Stephenson served as his major professor. This is Stephenson's 16th book, and he is the author or co-author of more than 450 book chapters and papers in peer-reviewed journals.
