Chenell Tucker, the wellness coordinator for the Arkansas Department of Health's Healthy Active Arkansas program, will speak at the U of A on Tuesday, Nov. 30.

The Master of Public Health program in the College of Education and Health Professions is hosting the event, which will be held in room 343 of the Graduate Education building at 3:30 p.m. Guests are also invited to join the presentation via Zoom.

Tucker will discuss her career path to Healthy Active Arkansas. The organization consists of volunteers from the public and private sectors dedicated to finding ways to make eating healthy and getting physical activity easier for all Arkansans. Much of this work includes policy changes, but it also includes educating others about good nutrition, the importance of physical activity, and helping individuals, communities, public and private sector organizations identify ways to lead healthier, more active lives.

"I'm excited students will get to hear from Chenell and see an example of how careers are not linear, siloed pathways," said Guadalupe Rodriguez, assistant public health coordinator at the U of A. "Public Health as a field is hard to define, and the career paths within the field are too many to list because it is such a broad and diverse field that intersects so many areas. This is the simultaneously exciting and challenging part when helping students consider a masters-level program in public health.

"As a program, we hope we can help students get more clarity by increasing their exposure to change agents like Chenell."

At the meeting, Rodriguez will share more about the master program's physical activity track.

Snacks will be provided at the in-person event.
