FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Updates to the previous bookstore space in the Arkansas Union began over winter break and will provide a new space for student and campus services.

The existing two-story space in the southwest wing of the Union will be converted to contain two tenant spaces on each floor. Included in the updated space will be the Center for Community Engagement, a multi-purpose room, the Campus Card Office, and the Tech Store which will move from its current location at the Garland Bookstore.

Proposed renovation of the Campus Card Office.

The renovation will allow the Union, a department within the Division of Student Affairs, to offer additional student services and provide current programs space for future growth.

"As student needs and university departments evolve, the Union finds itself in need of more space to accommodate staff, programs, and spaces for students to gather and create," said Rob Stagni, Arkansas Union director. "The new spaces created in this project — a new card office, an expanded Center for Community Engagement, and more meeting rooms — will benefit programs directly. Bringing the campus computer store into the Union will give students more retail options and better connect students to their services. Moreover, these moves have domino effects in the Union, opening up more spaces for other departments and programs to expand and grow to better serve student needs."

During the renovation, the entrance to the third floor of the Union from the bus terminal will be closed. Those wishing to enter should do so on either the second floor or by the Union Mall. Signs have been posted to help direct those to alternate routes.

Renovations are tentatively scheduled to be complete this summer.
