Music Faculty Members to Perform at University of Kentucky

Two faculty in the Department of Music — Miroslava Panayotova, piano, and Theresa Delaplain, oboe — were invited to the University of Kentucky in March as part of an SEC exchange program. The Southeastern Conference Faculty Travel Program was established in 2012 to promote collaboration between member universities. More than 100 faculty from across the SEC have been selected by their universities to participate. Delaplain received a grant from the program to create the concert.

The duo will perform The Artistry of Women, a concert celebrating Women's History Month presenting music by female composers, and a spoken component on "Diversifying the Canon." The duo will also work with students in master classes.

The duo's diverse program includes "Three Romances" by German composer Clara Schumann (1819-1896); "Song without Words" by American composer Florence Price (1887-1953); "Poem" by Russian composer Marina Dranishnikova (1929-1994); a work commissioned by Theresa Delaplain called "Esperanza Rota," by Argentinian composer Adriana Verdié (b. 1958); the "Barcarolle in E-Flat Major, Op. 71" by French composer Mel Bonis (1858-1937), and "Three-Piece Suite" by British composer Madeleine Dring (1923-1977). The works were selected to represent a range of style, nationality and culture spanning almost 200 years.
