'Title IX Tuesday' Session to Be Rescheduled

The U of A Title IX office will be rescheduling its third of a series of informational discussions titled “Title IX Tuesdays” due to unforeseen circumstances. 

The upcoming session was originally scheduled for Tuesday, March 8, and would be centered around supportive measures. It will be combined with the final session on March 29 and focus on both “supportive measures” and “consent.”

There will still be three chances to take part in the discussions occurring in one-hour sessions, held at 9:50 a.m., 11:50 a.m. and 2:50 p.m. The sessions will take place in the Arkansas Union, room 504. Zoom links will also be provided prior to the event for anyone wanting to attend virtually.

 “Title IX Tuesdays” has been providing an opportunity for the campus community to learn more about the policies and processes in place to help stop discrimination provided in the law that established Title IX. The sessions will also provide information about how the U of A’s Title IX Office operates and some of the resources it provides. 

Title IX is a federal law that prohibits sex, gender identity and/or sexual orientation-based discrimination, including, but not limited to: pregancy-related discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, and stalking in all activities and programs of educational institutions receiving federal funds, which includes the U of A.

The Title IX office oversees the university’s compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, working with university administration, departments, students, faculty, staff, campus police and other support services to ensure that university policies and programs foster a campus community free of gender discrimination and sexual violence.

There are many on-campus resources available to individuals who may be experiencing domestic violence, sexual harassment or any other form of sex-based discrimination, including the Title IX Office, the Campus Sexual and Relationship Violence Center and U of A Cares.

Criminal activities should be reported to UAPD or another law enforcement agency. Non-emergency situations regarding sexual harassment, misconduct, assault and discrimination can be reported to the university at report.uark.edu. Individuals may also confidentially speak to a victim’s advocate at the Campus Sexual and Relationship Violence Center.
