Honors College Hosts Discussion: 'War in Ukraine: The Future of Europe and the Transatlantic Alliance' Wednesday

As Ukraine continues to experience intense conflict and an emerging humanitarian crisis, the United States and the European Union have responded with remarkable resolve and unity. Already, the Russian invasion appears to be acting as a critical moment of change for Europeans and for the trans-Atlantic relationship with the U.S. Following up on its previous Honors Pulse panel on the war, the Honors College will welcome a panel of faculty experts to discuss the impact beyond Ukraine in Europe and in America from 5-6:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 16. The event will take place in the Honors Student Lounge, and pizza and drinks will be served.

Members of the faculty panel will include:

• Burcu Bayram, associate professor of international relations, Department of Political Science
• Alessandro Brogi, professor of diplomatic history and the Cold War, Department of History
• Fiona Davidson, associate professor of European geography, Department of Geosciences
• J. Laurence Hare, associate professor of European history, Department of History

"Our expert faculty in Fulbright College bring to the Honors College interdisciplinary perspectives about the war in Ukraine, mining the possible — and probable — impacts on Europe and the U.S.," said Lynda Coon, dean of the Honors College. "You won't want to miss this highly charged event."

This event is part of the Honors College Pulse discussion series, which began in 2016 following the presidential election, and was named in remembrance of victims of the Pulse nightclub shootings. Since then, it has featured conversations around the Dakota Access Pipeline Project, the legal ramifications and decisions related to hate crimes and ways to fight local hunger and poverty.
