HOGSS Talk to Feature Neurology and Psychology Professor Jon Hakun

Jon Hakun, assistant professor of neurology and psychology at the Pennsylvania State University, will speak about brain health at the U of A on Friday March 18.
The Health, Human Performance and Recreation Outside Guest Speaker Series (HOGSS) talk will be held in person at noon in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building, room 311. The lecture, titled "Ambulatory Assessments of Cognition, Behavior, and Experience: Applications in healthy aging, health promotion, and medicine" will also be held on Zoom (see Zoom webinar link below).
Hakun researches how day-to-day psychological and behavioral processes influence healthy cognitive aging and resilience. He specializes in mobile methods of data collection, including ecological momentary assessment and ambulatory cognitive assessment on smart phones. Hakun will discuss how detecting cognitive change at multiple timescales is critical to understanding the effects of aging, context, behavior, disease and treatment of brain health.
"Our team has developed an ambulatory assessment toolkit that addresses these issues through intensive repeated administration on smart phones, conducted over the course of participants' lives. This approach opens the door to new research questions about cognitive change and variation that occur at short and long timescales," he said. "I'll review recent progress in our work on ambulatory cognitive assessment through the lens of several ongoing studies, describing various use cases for the methodology."
The seminar is free and open to the public. It's hosted by the exercise science program in the College of Education and Health Professions.
