Partnership Makes The Teaching Professor Available to Campus Community

A cost-sharing partnership between the Office of Faculty Affairs, the Teaching and Faculty Support Center and the University Libraries has resulted in The Teaching Professor being available to U of A students, staff and faculty. According to its website, The Teaching Professor is "a highly informative newsletter with a singular purpose: to provide ideas and insight to educators who are passionate about teaching. A source of cutting-edge information and inspiration for more than 10,000 educators at universities and colleges worldwide."

The March 23 issue contains brief, informative research and practice-based articles about quizzes, micro credentials, effective use of discussion boards and politics in the classroom. Many articles provide reference lists or links for those who would like to take a deeper dive into a particular topic. In addition, The Teaching Professor website has links to archived materials on a variety of teaching-related topics.

The University Libraries have developed a Research Guide to assist in accessing The Teaching Professor that provides simple instructions for accessing from a campus computer or from a non-campus computer.

According to Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs Kathy Sloan, "The Teaching Professor is a superb online newsletter and database to learn about innovative pedagogical techniques and an online community that shares peer reviewed research on teaching and learning. Check it out. You will not be disappointed."
