Alexandria "Lexi" Meredith, a U of A apparel merchandising and product development major, has been named winner of a Women in Toys Foundation Inc. scholarship for 2022.

Meredith, a senior from Rogers, earned a scholarship for $2,500. Scholarships are awarded to students seeking undergraduate degrees in business, design, engineering, entrepreneurial studies and other industry-related programs. Candidates apply on the basis of merit, innovation and leadership.

"Although there are small efforts being made toward combating the negative sides of the fashion industry, it will take a new type of product and tool to help disperse this information to younger generations so it can feel confident in its work, creations and ultimately in themselves to create a cleaner and better world moving forward," Meredith said. "What I believe the essence of my studies are the science of textiles and how that relates to nature, sustainability, culture and education."

Previous U of A apparel scholarship recipients include India Callahan in 2017, Parker Milner in 2018, Jessie Daspit in 2019 and Lauren Walters in 2020. No scholarships were awarded in 2021.

Meredith will be recognized at upcoming WIT networking and professional development events this spring or during the summer.

The WIT Foundation honors achievements of women studying in fields of toy design, engineering, entrepreneurship and business with the purpose of highlighting students in toy-related careers.

The AMPD program is part of the School of Human Environmental Sciences in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences.

Garments designed and created by students in the apparel merchandising and product development program will be highlighted at the Enclothe: Embody fasion show Thursday at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, 600 Museum Way. Shows are at 5:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

More information and tickets are available here, which can be purchased through March 29.

U of A student tickets are $25 for general admission, and students must present their student ID. General admission tickets are $45, reserved seating is $75 and includes entry to the pre-show event with live music and hors d'oeuvres, and priority reserved seating tickets are $100, and include reserved priority seating, the pre-show event with live music and hors d'oeuvres, and name recognition in the program.
