Wendy Echeverria, a U of A journalism graduate student, was recently offered the Lopez Negrete Hispanic Marketing Education Scholarship from the Advertising Education Foundation of Houston.

The scholarship is open to undergraduates and graduate students attending 19 colleges and universities throughout the American Advertising Federation-Houston, 10th District's four-state area. Echeverria is one of 15 outstanding students who has been offered a $5,000 scholarship for tuition, fees and school loan repayment.

According to AEFH, awards like the Lopez Negrete Hispanic Marketing Education Scholarship support "well-rounded students who participate in all levels of school, work and the community and have demonstrated an interest and an aptitude for marketing communications."

Born in Los Angeles, California, Echeverria attended NorthWest Arkansas Community College before transferring to the U of A in 2015. After receiving her bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism in 2017, she worked at KNWA, the local NBC-affiliated television station. She then landed a position as a multimedia communication specialist in the U of A Department of Electrical Engineering, where she developed an interest in advertising and public relations.

Currently, Echeverria is a graduate assistant pursuing a master's degree in the School of Journalism and Strategic Media. She is responsible for assisting the advertising and public relations faculty and teaching Broadcast News Reporting II.

Lopez Negrete considers itself the nation's largest independent, Hispanic-owned and -operated full-service advertising and marketing services agency, known for providing clients such as Walmart with research-based insights, impactful advertising and brilliant cultural intelligence.
