CDIS Student Awarded National Scholarship

Kyra Resende, an undergraduate student in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Program, was one of only 10 recipients of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association's Undergraduate Scholarship.

NSSLHA is the only national student organization for pre-professionals studying communication sciences and disorders that is recognized by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. This organization was established in 1972 and currently has over 11,000 student members and nearly 350 chapters, including the very successful chapter at the U of A.

Resende is a junior at the U of A. She moved to Bentonville from Brazil in 2017 and completed high school in 2020. She decided to major in communication sciences and disorders because she hopes to become a speech-language pathologist. She currently works as a teaching aid at a preschool for children with developmental delays. She is also completing a research project examining the awareness of sensory processing disorders among professionals in a school setting.

"It is quite an honor to receive one of these scholarships," reported CDIS Program Director Rachel Glade. "Kyra continues to be an outstanding student in our undergraduate program, and we have no doubt she will continue to do great things in the future."
