Faculty in the Department of Sociology and Criminology Put on Coffee With a Practitioner
Faculty in the Department of Sociology and Criminology will hold Coffee with a Practitioner from 9-11 a.m., Wednesday, April 13, in the Arkansas Union, rooms 512-513.
This event builds from the traditional Coffee with a Cop events that are often held within cities and towns allowing residents to informally interact with law enforcement officers. To broaden this idea, professors Paez, Sabon and Drawve have invited agencies and organizations beyond law enforcement to participate in Coffee with a Practitioner. Drinks and snacks will also be provided.
Practitioners from the court system and law firms as well as the U of A Law School, Arkansas Crisis Center, Single Parent Scholarship Fund, Children's Safety Center and others along with university, local, state and federal law enforcement agencies will be at the event.
The event is meant to be an informal way for students to interact and network with agencies and organizations located in Northwest Arkansas. This is also an opportunity for students to ask questions to practitioners in the field who have experience in careers often sought after by students.
"This is a much-needed event for students to be able to interact with practitioners across different fields to understand those career paths. We all have ideas of what these types of careers entail, but this idea can differ from reality," said Grant Drawve, one of the event's organizers and associate professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology.
Additionally, Drawve said this event provides a time for students to identify potential internship opportunities and future employment opportunities within these agencies and organizations.
