Celebrate Earth Day With University Libraries Multimedia Resources

Earth Day will be observed on April 22 this year, and the University Libraries Multimedia Department has compiled a list of streaming videos available to all students, staff and faculty. Physical items are also available on display in the Multimedia Department, located in the Mullins Library Hodges Reading Room. 

Movies and Documentaries 

Before the Flood follows Leonardo DiCaprio as he travels around the globe to witness first-hand the effects of climate change and what can be done to solve the climate crisis. 

An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power is the sequel to An Inconvenient Truth and aims to show just how close we are to a real energy revolution.  

The Plastic Cup: The Official Story of the Plastic Pirates documents the Hungarian "Plastic Cup," a long-distance race on the river Tisza of boats made from collected plastic garbage. 

Plastic in the Ocean explores the devastation that plastic has on our oceans and the people who are championing the clean-up. 

Transportation, Greener Cars, Biodiesel & Designing Cities Less Dependent on Fossil Fuels explores the automotive industry's move towards greener cars and the need for cities to balance cycling, public transportation and vehicles within their overall infrastructure.  

Guardians of the Earth tells the story of how, for the first time, 195 countries committed to take action against climate change. The key goal is to keep the increase in the global average temperature well below 2°C. 

Time to Choose addresses worldwide climate change challenges and solutions.  

Channels and Series 

Several video channels and series are dedicated to environmental issues.

Going Green tells the story of five individuals making a difference through sustainability efforts, from a man who built a village in Panama using recycled plastic bottles to a woman in Copenhagen who changed government policy on food waste. 

Unsolvable is a series of brief videos related to climate change and includes episodes such as See How We Might Clean Our Air in the Future, Meet the Scientists Cleaning up Carbon Emissions, Blocking Out the Sun to Fight Climate Change and This Scientist Made a Super-Tree to Fight Climate Change

There are also several channels related to environmental studies and global issues.
