Call for Nominations: Paul Cronan Technology Teaching Excellence Award

The Wally Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center is accepting nominations for the Paul Cronan Technology Teaching Excellence Award.

Description: The Paul Cronan Technology Teaching Excellence Award recognizes a faculty member who has creatively used technology to enhance their teaching at the U of A. The award consists of a recognition plaque and a $500 Teaching Enhancement Grant from the Cordes TFSC.

Eligibility: Faculty (at all ranks including staff who may teach courses, regardless of tenure status) who have taught for a minimum of three years at the U of A. We anticipate that a single recipient will be designated each year.

Selection: In the first year, the selection committee shall consist of two TFSC co-directors and and a selected faculty member. In subsequent years, the committee shall consist of one TFSC co-director, one previous Cronan Award recipient and a selected faculty member. Nominees may either self-nominate or be nominated by a faculty member, staff member or student. To apply for the award, a two-page (maximum) nomination letter should be submitted that includes descriptions of how that nominee has used technology to enhance their teaching and a discussion of how integrating that technology contributed to student success. The recipient will be recognized during the annual Teaching Awards Reception.

Criteria: The following criteria shall be used in selecting the recipient of the award:

  1. Explanation of technology used in the classroom (required)
    1. Description of technology.
    2. Creativity of the use of technology.
    3. How the technology advances course and/or curricula objectives and student learning.
    4. Evidence of student success (related to technology). (These are options; it is not required to address all).
  2. Evidence of an imporvement in student learning
    1. Student comments related to the use of technology in the classroom.
    2. Student evaluation enhancement.
    3. Evidence of course or curriculum enhancement.
    4. Employer/company comments.

Nominations: Please send nominations by email to Carole Shook at cshook@walton.uark.edu, with Cronan Award Nomination as the subject. Nominations will be accepted until 5 p.m., Friday, May 20.
