The Story Behind Holi: Holi is an ancient festival of India that celebrates the victory of good over evil. In ancient times, there was a devil king Hiranyakashipu who forbade his pious son Prahlad from worshipping God Vishnu. When Prahlad defied, his father sat him on pyre with his sister Holika who was immune to fire. But with God's grace, while Holika burnt, Prahlad came out unscathed. Moreover, Holi celebration marks the arrival of spring and is associated with harvest. The festival lasts for two days. It starts on the night of Poornima (full moon) where a pyre is lit called Holika Dahan. The next morning celebration and festivities begin. It is a joyous festival where people smear vibrant colors on each other, savor many delicacies, dance and wish happiness for all.
