National Stop Food Waste Day is April 27 this year, but Razorback Food Recovery wants to celebrate all week long! According to stopfoodwasteday.com, 33 percent of all food produced globally is lost or wasted each year, costing the average American family $1,866 in lost food annually. When that food goes into landfills, it produces greenhouse gas emissions, and an estimate 8 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions are due to food loss and waste!

The schedule of events is as below — earn service hours, enter giveaways and learn more about how we can stop food waste at the U of A. Follow @uavac and @foodonthehill_ar for updates and information. Click our GivePulse Links to sign up!

Monday, April 25 — Volunteers will be tabling at Fulbright and 1021 Dining Halls during lunchtime (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.). You will be provided with food waste fact sheets, and you'll be able to educate others on the impacts of food waste and how they can battle them!

Tuesday, April 26 — Lunch & Learn! Come enjoy free lunch and watch TedTalks about food waste with a group discussion and earn two service hours. Chartwells' Executive Chef Matt will be in attendance to talk about how the U of A is limiting food waste in our dining halls with Razorback Food Recovery. Limited to 20 participants; RSVP here.

Wednesday, April 27 — Stop Food Waste Day! Razorback Food Recovery will be tabling at Fulbright Dining Hall from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Chartwells' GrateFUL event! Come join the festivities and table with us. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to eat at Fulbright for participating.

Thursday, April 28 — Razorback Food Recovery will be back at Fulbright and 1021 Dining Halls to wrap up the week with some trivia. We will have fact sheets for you!

Razorback Food Recovery is a signature program of the University of Arkansas' Volunteer Action Center, a student-led organization dedicated to providing service opportunities on campus and in the community. Razorback Food Recovery recovers surplus food on the U of A campus and redistributes it to those in need. To learn more about RFR and how to get involved, email recovery@uark.edu. We will be looking for weekly summer volunteers soon!
