Content warning: Contains Mention of Sexual Assault

About Denim Day: In 1992, an 18-year-old Italian woman was raped by her 45-year-old driving instructor. She reported the incident to authorities. He was then convicted of rape and sentenced to jail. Years later, his conviction was appealed to the Italian Supreme Court on the argument that the sex was indeed consensual because the young woman’s jeans were tight, and she must have helped him remove them. The supreme court agreed and overturned his conviction.

We wear jeans on Denim Day to support sexual assault survivors and as a reminder that no matter what you wear, consent is never implied. Denim Day is April 27, 2022.
