Faculty Earn TFSC Peer Observation of Teaching Certificate

Seven faculty members recently completed all requirements for the Teaching and Faculty Support Center's Peer Observation of Teaching Certificate.
Completing faculty members are:
- Jeanne Eichler, occupational therapy
- Mindy Bradley, sociology and criminology
- Deb Korth, mathematical sciences and Fulbright Student Success
- Don Johnson, agricultural education, communications and technology
- Heather Walker, chemical engineering
- Kasey Walker, communication
- Carole Shook, information systems
The peer observation program consisted of three hours of classroom instruction and practice, two "practice" peer evaluations of other faculty (consisting of a pre-observation meeting, classroom observation, post-observation meeting and written observation report) and having one of their own classes observed by a different peer observer.
The goal of the certificate program, conducted in conjunction with the Thompson Center for Teaching Excellence at the University of Michigan-Flint, is to provide a trained cadre of faculty peers to observe as requested in faculty classrooms. All peer observations are confidential, formative and conducted in a spirit of mutual respect and improvement. A second cadre of 12 faculty are in the process of completing certification in peer observation, and a third cadre will begin during Teaching Camp this summer.
