Pay Frequency Change Prep: Check Direct Deposits and Tax Withholdings

Pay Frequency Change Prep: Check Direct Deposits and Tax Withholdings

Employees at the U of A are reminded that they will see the frequency of their pay move from monthly to semimonthly starting in June 2022.

The move to semimonthly means that employees will receive their pay twice a month, rather than once a month. The final monthly payroll will be on May 31, and the first semimonthly payroll will be June 15. There will be no gap in payment and each employee’s total monthly salary will remain the same.

CHANGES TO DEDUCTIONS/CONTRIBUTIONS

During the change to semimonthly pay, payroll staff can make most adjustments to payroll deductions and contributions on their own.

Certain deductions must be manually changed between June 1-10, 2022, including:

  • Direct Deposit: Specified dollar amounts designated to savings accounts, checking accounts, etc.

For example, if you are currently depositing $100 per month to a savings account, you will need to make a change in the Pay section on your Workday profile to avoid $100 deposited to the savings account from each of your checks. The change must be made between June 1-10, 2022, to be effective for the June 15 payroll.

If you are directing pay into bank accounts by percentages, there is nothing you need to do.

For instance, if you currently direct 100 percent of your pay into one account or direct specified percentages of your pay into more than one account, your pay will be desposited in the same manner/same percentage(s) but will now be divided between two semimonthly deposits.

  • Additional Federal/State Income Tax Withholdings – Specified dollar amounts in addition to calculated tax withholdings.

For example, if you are currently deducting $100 per month in additional tax withholdings, you will need to make a change in the Pay section on your Workday profile to avoid $100 deducted from each of your checks. The change must be made between June 1-10, 2022, to be effective for the June 15 payroll.

If you did not elect for any extra tax withholdings to be withheld each pay period, there is nothing you need to do.
