'Long Struggle for LGBTQ+ Inclusiveness at Southern Universities' to Be Discussed at JEDI Hour

The College of Engineering's June JEDI Hour, co-sponsored by the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, will feature Michael Hevel, associate professor of higher education, and Charles Thompson, who recently completed his Ph.D. in higher education at the U of A, on the topic "The Long Struggle for LGBTQ+ Inclusion at Southern Universities."

The virtual session will be held from 3-4 p.m., Monday, June 20. Registration is not necessary, and all are welcome.

Hevel's research focuses on the history of college students in the United States, especially how their identities shaped their experiences in higher education. His research has been published in the History of Education Quarterly, Journal of Higher Education and the Journal of College Student Development.

Thompson's research is centered around minority college students' experiences at U.S. institutions of higher education, with a particular focus on college students with minority sexual and gender identities. He will join the faculty of the University of South Carolina in August.

In celebration of Pride Month, the talk was organized by the Fulbright College's Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the College of Engineering's Office of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
